Ralph Sanchez began his martial arts training unofficially while still in junior high school. He began his official martial arts training while in the military in 1981 by studying Tae Kwon Do in the Republic of Korea. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army Military Police, Sanchez continued his martial arts training back in the United States by studying American Kempo and Isshin Ryu Karate. In 1995, he began his study of Matsubayashi Ryu, the style in which he continues today.  In 2003 he founded Liberty Karate Club in East Orlando. Sanchez holds the rank of Nanadan (7th degree black belt), and trains under Joche Zapata Shihan (8th degree black belt). He was also a Certified Coach for the AAU National Karate Program.

Sanchez Kyoshi remains first a student and second a teacher.
